Goonies never say die!
Arrr, Could It Be? A Long-Lost Sequel to The Goonies Finally Resurfaces!
After years marooned in the treacherous seas of development hell, it looks like a long-awaited sequel to The Goonies may finally be setting sail. Aye, me hearties, the tides be shifting!
Word from the crow’s nest be that Potsy Ponciroli (Old Henry) has been recruited to chart the course for the next adventure, scribin’ the script for this long-buried treasure of a film. But keep yer spyglasses polished—story details be locked tighter than Davy Jones’ chest, and as yet, no captain (director) has taken the helm.
Still, the ship be well-stocked with legendary names: Steven Spielberg, Chris Columbus, Kristie Macosko Krieger, and Holly Bario be producing this voyage, with Lauren Shuler Donner steering from the crow’s nest as executive producer.
The original 1985 tale followed a ragtag crew of young scallywags who unearthed an ancient treasure map and set sail on the adventure of a lifetime. Led by the likes of Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Ke Huy Quan, and Martha Plimpton, the film—helmed by the late Richard Donner and backed by the mighty Spielberg—pulled in a king’s ransom of $125 million at the box office on a mere $19 million budget. Over the years, it became a cult classic, earnin’ a rightful place in the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry in 2017.
As for what be comin’ next, Corey Feldman—ever the loyal first mate—had this to say about a potential reunion: “All I can say is, get us all together. Everybody is looking good. Sean’s looking good. Josh is looking good. We’re all looking good still, and we’re all alive. Goonies never say die…There’s hope.”
So hoist the Jolly Roger and keep a weather eye on the horizon, mateys! Could a new Goonies adventure soon be settin’ sail? Only time will tell if this sequel finds its way out of the stormy seas of Hollywood and onto the silver screen!
